For the health of your residents & the strength of your center, the right rehab service is key.
The right rehab service is key.
Though it may seem that all rehab providers offer similar services, look closer and you’ll find a world of differences that can affect your patients’ health and your center’s future. Key Rehab is intentionally different – in the range of services we provide, the systems we adhere to, even the locations in which we provide those services. We offer open and honest communication, years of experience, and the mechanisms necessary for our clients to provide the highest quality of therapy in a results oriented and cost effective manner.
Our business and reputation has been built on a solid foundation of patient care, client satisfaction, staff satisfaction, and sound financial and organizational management. Each of those principals plays a crucial role as we work to meet the needs of patients, residents, families, health care providers and their businesses.
Discover the difference Key Rehab can make for you.

The key to growth in your center begins in our corporate offices.
At Key Rehab, our mission statement comes not from a corporate boardroom, but from real life experiences in working with people in need of rehabilitation. We provide leadership and support to meet the needs of patients, their families, staff, and you – our client.
You can see those elements reflected in the attitudes and accomplishments of the people who guide Key Rehabilitation.
Jan Irwin, CEO and President, our company’s co-founder, is a speech-language pathologist by trade who held executive posts with two comprehensive rehabilitative corporations before developing Key Rehab. She is fully engaged in the company’s daily operations, and facilitates communication at every level of the company.
Randy Schertz is Key Rehab’s CFO and Executive Vice President. With extensive years of experience in healthcare accounting; beginning from a subacute rehab center’s business office to Controller for a nursing home corporation, Randy co-founded the company. He helps guide staff through the maze of reimbursement regulations and oversees Key’s billing and invoicing services to be complete and accurate.
Mike Gorman, OTR is the Senior Vice President of Clinical and Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Compliance Officer at Key Rehab. He works with clients free of charge to answer any Medicare, regulatory, or PPS questions.
Tracy Cavanaugh, RN is Vice President of Nursing and Program Support Services. She plays a crucial role in bridging the communication gap between therapists and nurses and offers nurse consulting services at no charge to you.

The key is communication at every level.
Our mission, focus and organizational structure gives us the ability to intently focus on customer needs and therapist development. We are large enough to provide a stable relationship, yet small enough to give you true, individual attention.
Key Rehabilitation, Inc. works with you and your center staff to integrate your rehab program.
That program will be custom built for you and your needs. As situations change, the program can be modified to immediately match the needs of your residents and your center.
At the core of your Key Rehab team is your Program Coordinator. The Program Coordinator is a licensed therapist who heads a team of therapists solely dedicated to your center. In many ways, the Program Coordinator can be thought of as a department head for your center.
The Program Coordinator has four areas of responsibility:
- Identifying residents’ needs
- Patient treatments
- Staff scheduling
- Participation in your center’s meetings
Your Program Coordinator is mentored and guided by a Key Rehab Regional Supervisor (who is also a licensed therapist or nurse.) Each Regional Supervisor has responsibility for 3 – 5 Program Coordinators, and is responsible for making sure staffing and services are in place to meet your needs.
As the tenure of Key Rehab demonstrates, ours is a business model that has been proven to work in community after community. Over half our current clients have been with us for seven years or more.

The key is turning paperwork into green.
The old adage that the job’s not finished until the “paperwork” is done is never truer than when that job is rehabilitation paid for by Medicare or other insurance providers.
Key Rehabilitation utilizes a state of the art scheduling, documentation and billing system. The automated system schedules each piece of clinical documentation due and provides alerts about future due dates. Using the system, therapists are able to maintain productivity rates equivalent to realistic clinical standards as well as provide quality therapy planning and provision of services.
In addition to our state-of-the-art documentation system, Key Rehab has exhaustively researched and continually monitors Medicare therapy documentation requirements, then we provide extensive training on the requirements. But, we don’t stop there - we even have our own “in-house” RN clinical review team to double check that all documentation meets medicare’s guidelines for reimbursement.
As a result, Key Rehab is able to generate high quality clinical documentation that reflects patient needs, progress, and professional skilled services in accordance with Medicare expectations and guidelines.
The frustration of providing unnecessary or unaccepted services is eliminated.
